Gerdy's Rescues & Adoptions is a registered charity, a non-profit organization, founded in 2004. It is a small but very active grassroots volunteer group founded and directed by Gerdy Cox-Gouron, who is well-known and respected in the Montreal and surrounding area for her 20 years of compassion, dedication, and success in providing cats and dogs in distress with new beginnings through adoption.

Most of the animals we take have been lost, abandoned or abused; while others were accepted by us from seniors going into nursing homes and other situations of unfortunate life events. We also offer non-medical advice that encourages people to not give up animals they love by offering suggestions to help solve the problem in such a way that the animal does not lose his home. Our animals are currently housed and cared for by boarding at Chez Sandra Chalet et SPA, where Gerdy arranges viewing by appointment only to show our animals for adoption. Our solid track record for compatible adoptions is due to careful evaluation of each animal's specific personality, behaviour and needs, enabling us to match them with compatible families. Our policy is to take an animal back if circumstances change. All donations are used only for the benefit of the animals in our care. We receive no government funding, but rely upon donations and various fundraisers throughout the year to keep us going. For each animal adopted, we can save one more. To date we have placed over 500 animals in loving homes since our founding in 2004, including a llama, mouse, and bird! We keep our dogs and cats until they are adopted - none are euthanized for space - as we believe that every animal has a home, we just have not found it yet. We are very proud of the wonderful human beings who have adopted and loved our most challenging-dogs and cats with amputations, the elderly, the frightened, and some with chronic non-life threatening conditions who still have so much to offer.
