The City of Coquitlam Animal Shelter opened its doors June 22, 2002. The shelter is a no-kill shelter that takes in all domesticated stray animals in the City of Coquitlam. There are 22 dedicated staff members who care for and make sure all the animals' needs are met and exceeded. We have a volunteer orientation once a month of which we orientate approximately 20-50 new volunteers. There are a group of dedicated volunteers that have been coming 3 times a week if not every day since the shelter opened. The volunteers make sure the dogs are walked, socialized and groomed regularly. The cat and small animal volunteers make sure they are socialized, exercised and groomed regularly. The staff at the animal shelter can not say enough good things about the volunteers and thank them for all their help and dedication to the animals. The animal shelter has grown with each year and in 2007 helped 857 stray animals to find their owners or be placed into loving new homes.
